late 16th cent.: contraction of God be with you!, with good substituted on the pattern of phrases such as good morning.
在古代，当有人要出门远行时，送别的人就会对他说“ God be with ye （ you ）”，意思是“上帝与你同在”。
后来，说得快了，这句话的后半部分“ be with ye ”就简化成了bye ，而受“ good morning ”、“ good afternoon ”等问候语的影响，前面的 God 也变成了 good 。所以最后整句话就演变成了“ good bye ”。
