玫瑰在正午失去晨间的美,但那美是真的
刀锋 里印度圣者说,世间的满足都是短暂的,唯有无限者给出恒久的幸福。拉里的反驳我很喜欢:
But endless duration makes good no better, nor white any whiter. If the rose at noon has lost the beauty it had at dawn, the beauty it had then was real. Nothing in the world is permanent, and we're foolish when we ask anything to last, but surely we're still more foolish not to take delight in it while we have it. ... We can none of us step into the same river twice, but the river flows on and the other river we step into is cool and refreshing too.
持续得久并不让好变得更好,也不让白变得更白。玫瑰在正午失掉了它清晨的美,可它清晨那份美是真的。既然变化是存在的本质,那就该把它当成哲学的前提,而不是拿它当拒绝的理由。
我读时记下的是:转瞬即逝的美丽,万物无长久,珍惜当下,正视无常。
这条和 只有现在是真实的:活在当下(叔本华)落点相同,但气质不一样:叔本华劝你珍惜当下,是因为将来必定更糟;拉里劝你珍惜当下,是因为下一条河同样清凉。同一个无常,一个读出防守,一个读出慷慨。
