Pyrrhic victory

赢了，但代价太大，赢了等于没赢。

Use the adjective pyrrhic to describe a victory that is won, but at too great a cost.

The word comes from the Greek general Pyrrhus, who defeated the Romans at the Battle of Asculum but lost so many troops that he couldn't defeat Rome itself.

公元前 279 年，伊庇鲁斯国王皮洛士在阿斯库路姆击败罗马军团，自己也损失惨重。据普鲁塔克记载，有人向他道贺，他答道：再来这样一场胜利，我就完了。

这个词的锋利之处在于它不否认胜利。皮洛士确实赢了那一仗——问题是他赢不起。判断胜负的尺子必须比这场战斗本身更长，否则一连串真实的胜利可以精确地通向失败。

If you are the winner in an argument with your brother, but the fight ends up ruining your relationship with him, it's a Pyrrhic victory.
