The Fellowship of the Ring

夏尔长期平静，是因为有人在它看不见的地方工作。住在里面的人逐渐把和平与富足看成中土世界的常态，参见 成功的预防往往不会得到奖励。与此相对，魔戒对强者更有用，也对强者更危险。能够借它做大事的人，恰好最可能把自己的欲望说成正义。
我读到最后，对 Sam 的代入比 Frodo 更深。他最初只是想看看精灵，真的看见以后，远行却成了另一件事，见 少年远行。这群习惯安稳生活的 hobbits 也会在危险中作出另一种反应，见 勇气常在无路可退时才显露。Galadriel 的镜子又让 Sam 看见夏尔可能被毁，预言被看见以后，未来就开始改变。
精灵这一边有另一组时间。不变的人会看着整个世界迅速老去，摧毁魔戒也意味着 Lothlórien 失去力量，有些胜利以自己的衰落为代价。他们口中的工艺被其他种族统称为 magic，见 别人称为魔法的，也许只是另一种族的日常技艺。
书里的世界观细到需要地图协助。地图把架空世界变成一段可以跟着走的路 记录了我看完附录后重新追踪众人路线的经验。不过，几千年的历史几乎没有技术变化，也让我觉得这套设定很取巧，见 漫长历史与技术停滞让奇幻世界保持原样。
还有几处暂时留着。秘银比回火钢轻，却更坚硬；fair 是书里形容女性容貌时反复出现的最高级词；故事时间上也有一个疑问，如果魔戒更早被带出夏尔，事情会不会简单很多。
